OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a non-invasive, drug free manual therapy used to improve circulation and correct biomechanics. Osteopathy aims to help improve health across the full body by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework. A Manual Osteopath will focus on muscles, joints and the spine. Treatment aims to help the body’s lymphatic, circulatory and nervous systems.
The principles of manual osteopathy are:
- The body is a unit; the person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit.
- The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance.
- Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated.
- Rational treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function.

What to expect during your appointment:
Your initial appointment will include health history with an assessment and treatment with a discussion on a treatment plan and possible at home exercises to do. The treatment is gentle and often people experience deep relaxation. The body will be encouraged back into better alignment for self healing. Generally people usually have 1-4 appointments for acute conditions and 6-8 for chronic pain. Light, loose clothing is recommended along with staying hydrated before and after treatment. Ideally, take a couple hours after the treatment to settle and not ask the body to do anything too rigorous.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle form of bodywork that has a profound effect on the nervous system. CST was developed nearly 100 years ago by an American osteopathic physician. Techniques are used based on understanding the continuous subtle movements of the bones of the head (cranial) which result in a rhythm of approximately 6-12 cycles a minute. This rhythm is continued throughout the entire body with each inhalation and exhalation. Your spine, skull, and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, fascia and soft tissue are treated for restrictions. Treatment works to restore cranial mobility, release abnormal myofascial restrictions, help align bones and release abnormal cranial restrictions. It can help with migraines, headaches, stress, insomnia, whiplash, post concussion,TMJ Dysfunction, sinus congestion, and tinnitus.
What to expect during your appointment:
For the hands-on work to be most effective, you should wear loose, thin clothing. You’ll be asked to lie on a massage table, no oils or lotion will be used. The treatment will include assessing the movement of the cranial bones, sacrum, and fascia for restriction and some light soft tissue release. Ideally you relax on the table with your eyes closed and tune into your own body. Clients often experience a deep sense of relaxation during the treatment. Treatments are 1 hour in length.
